Development of Technical Specifications and Design

Quality design is the foundation of reliability, durability, and fault tolerance of any engineering system or IT infrastructure. Errors made at the documentation stage lead to increased installation costs, delays in project delivery, and threats to the safety of the entire building.

The process of creating and implementing a design solution from Smart Security includes 3 main stages. Each stage is a complex set of works, without which it is impossible to obtain a quality, safe, and economically justified result.

We develop design documentation in accordance with current state building codes (DBN), national standards (DSTU), requirements of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and international standards (ISO/IEC).

3 main stages of creating and implementing a design solution

1. Stage 1. Collection and study of initial data, development of technical specifications: Foundation for future infrastructure.

At this stage, our specialists collect all primary information, study the architectural features of the facility, and form a clear Technical Specification (TS), which becomes the legal and technical basis for further work.

2. Stage 2. Development of design solution: Creation of working and cost estimate documentation.

Conducting engineering calculations, network routing, equipment selection, and formation of a complete set of drawings and specifications (PD, RO, RD stages).

3. Stage 3. Project implementation support: Author’s supervision and commissioning.

Control of compliance of installation works with the developed design, system testing, and transfer of final as-built documentation to the customer.

Detailed scope of work by stages

1. Collection and study of initial data, development of technical specifications

Before starting the development of the graphical and calculation part, we conduct a thorough analysis of the facility:

  • Approval of commercial proposal: fixing budget limits, scope of work, and key customer requirements.

  • Architectural and construction project: study of floor plans, room specifications, load-bearing structures, and evacuation routes.

  • Engineering systems projects: analysis of related networks (power supply, ventilation, heating, fire automation) to eliminate routing conflicts.

  • Equipment technical documentation: study of technical specifications from manufacturers of selected security systems, server and network equipment.

  • Design assignment: preparation and approval with the customer of the final TS with detailed functionality of each system.

2. Development of design solution

Creation of the main set of design and cost estimate documents:

  • Engineering calculations: calculation of load on cable routes, battery capacity, network bandwidth (LAN/SAN), video surveillance archive depth, and voltage drop.

  • Connection and interaction procedures: development of electrical schematic diagrams, structural diagrams of system integration (CCTV, ACS, IAS, BMS), and integration protocols.

  • Equipment and materials selection: specification of compatible and certified equipment with cost estimate optimization.

  • Preparation of design and cost estimate documentation: preparation of explanatory notes, development of equipment layout plans, cable logs, and cost estimates.

  • Tasks for related project parts: formation of construction and electrical tasks for subcontractors (drilling openings, power supply, grounding).

3. Project implementation support

Ensuring accurate implementation of the design solution:

  • Author’s supervision: regular visits of the design engineer to the facility to control compliance of installation works with the developed documentation and DBN standards.

  • As-built documentation: entering actual changes into drawings after completion of installation (acts of concealed works, as-built route diagrams).

  • Organizational and administrative documents: preparation of orders, readiness certificates, and instructions for service personnel.

  • Testing program and methodology: development of comprehensive system testing regulations, commissioning, and facility handover for operation.
